hug

they see you and they embraced you

this wonderful bundle of joy

they hugged you tight

they wouldn’t let go

then they hugged you tighter

and you felt loved like never before

but your skin started to redden and it started to burn

you thought it was love

they hugged you even tighter now and they tell you that they love you

then your bones started to hurt

you still think it was love

they hugged you as tight as they can and you let them

they say that they will never let you go

but now your ribs start to break

you still think it was love

they are confused and they are frustrated

“why doesn’t it feel the same anymore?”

because now you’re broken and in pieces

but you still think it was love

you’re struggling but you didn’t care

you know that this pain is worth it

you tell yourself

“they loved me then and they’ll still love me now”

all your broken pieces and all the shattered bones

but they see you and they tell you that you’re not like before

in your suffering you were angry but you know that they’ll love you the same

you know that they’ll understand

and they did, they picked up the pieces with you

they tried to put you together again

and you still think it was love

then one day came and they got tired of trying to put you together

and they tell you “I can’t hug you anymore because now you’re falling apart”

“I can’t hug you anymore because now you’ve changed”

they tell you that they have to leave you

because things are not the same

they tell you that you’d find another someday

that will hug you as tight as they did

they tell you that this was for the best

and that you must learn to let them go

you must learn to accept that this cannot work

that you cannot be hugged anymore

you cannot be hugged anymore so they must find another

and now that they have someone to hug again

they tell you that if you ever did love them before

you will be happy for them.

and you still think that it was love.
